We have transitioned to celebrating New Years with kids. It's a tad different than how we've celebrated in the past.

S-P-E-L-L-I-N-G
Brent and I are in the habit of spelling lots of words when we are in the presence of Abby. The other night I told Brent that we needed to give Abby a B-A-T-H and Abby responded with "No, I need W-X-Y-Z!" We couldn't stop laughing.
But speaking of spelling, Abby is so interested in her letters - she'll name the letters, she knows the sounds of the letters (I haven't charted which one she knows and doesn't know, but I can see myself doing that in the near future). She is constantly asking "what letter does that start with?". So we'll stop and I'll say the word slowly to exaggerate the sounds. And Abby figures it out pretty quickly! Just last night I began asking her about the ending sounds, not just the beginning sounds. She's good.

Straight from Abby's mouth
Abby is saying all sorts of funny things - she's a walking contradiction and I think it is so funny. I know she's 'trying on' all these phrases and seeing how they apply in different situations.
"Of course!"
"No-ee" (No)
"I lub you" - okay, that's not funny, but hearing her "lub" is just priceless. I don't want her to develop the /v/ sound! But I've already heard it emerging...darnit!
"I don't know about birds"
and my favorite:
"I can but I can't"
"I don't want to, but I do"
"I won't but I will"
Abby is learning all sorts of 'fancy' words like
instead
either
because
When asked "do you know who that was?" and her responding with "what?" instead of "who" (or "where", "when" as appropraiate)
I am loving watching her vocabulary explode!

Monkey See, Monkey Do!
Abby imitating what she sees Mommy and Daddy doing... (I love that she grabbed the small Boppy pillow to use because that's what I use when I feed Jacob!)
These next couple of pictures has her "iPad" in it. Ahh, multi-tasking already. I guess that I play on my Kindle and phone a lot while I'm feeding Jacob. Ahem...

Disney on Ice
Grammy Sue bought us tickets to go to Disney on Ice! The boys stayed home while Abby and I joined Megan and Natalie with Grammy Sue for this event. I'd never been, so I had no idea what to expect. Abby wore her Elsa dress that she got for her birthday (from Grammy Sue). It was a two hour show and Abby was glued to the action on the ice the entire time.
Grammy Sue and two of her grandkids - Thanks for a fun evening! |
I think this is my favorite photo! Cousin love! |

Hand!
Look at my hand! It is so cool! I just stare at it forever. Sometimes it goes away and I get upset, but then, it just pops up again and I'm happy. I love my hand.

Two Months
Here we are at the two month mark! I sadly went back to work this week. Jacob is getting better at holding his head up. He continues to do what he does best - eat and spit up. He does seem to keep something in as his cheeks just keep getting bigger and bigger.
He's sleeping well; waking up 1-2 times per night.

Abby Spelling
Abby can spell her first AND last name! She's beginning to spell Mommy and Daddy too, but often forgets the 'o' and 'a'.
The other day she saw a neon sign for "Blue Moon" and Abby pointed out - "Mommy, that says Mommy". I had to point out that while it didn't say Mommy, it did have similar letters.
She can also hear a word and then identify what letter it starts with. She's such a smart girl! I can say that right, as her mother?
I think we'll have an early reader on our hands...

Fall Festival
We went to a Fall Festival this weekend. There was a ton of kid friendly things to do and the weather was great! What was even better was that the place wasn't crowded at all, so when we wanted to ride the ride again, we could without waiting in line.
Afterwards, we went out to get some food - we weren't thrilled with the food choices or prices at the fall festival. I love how Abby is looking and interacting with Jacob. She must be getting used to his presence because she's been doing that a lot more.
