I have to say that ultrasounds are so fascinating...you do need a little bit of a detective hat to determine what the heck you're looking at, but our tech seemed very knowledgeable and luckily had her hat on tight. We had a plan of the tech writing down the sex of the baby and then inserting it into an envelope and sealing it for us to take home. Brent and I wanted to learn of the news in a private setting vs. in a sterile examination room with a strange person sharing it with us. The detective-hat-wearing tech obliged and did it even better. She had us look away when she was down looking at the 'private parts'. She then printed out a picture of the "money shot" labeling the sex and put it in the sealed envelope. Thursday, May 26, 2011

Lacey
So I haven't talked about Lacey in a while. Guess this whole "baby thing" has my mind preoccupied. Which is kinda true, but Lacey is a huge part of our life. We LOVE this puppy. She is the best puppy. Really, she is. She is smart as a whip and learns quickly. Plus, she's so darn cute! Who wouldn't love that sweet puppy face that just loves you unconditionally?

- The nurse wants me step on the scale and I always request that I use the bathroom first. I have to get rid of any excess weight I can!
- While in the bathroom, I then have to pee in a cup, which is always an intesting task to complete.
- I emerge from the restroom and then take off my shoes and step on the scale backwards as I DO NOT want to see what I weigh. I only want to know if there's a problem with my weight and if I need to change my diet/activity level. Otherwise, I'd like to stay ignorant of my weight and weight gain thankyouverymuch.
- Nurse asks me same questions as previous appointment and takes my BP.
- The MOST exciting part of the appointment, of course, is hearing the baby's heart beat. It's about 30 seconds of wonderfulness! That's the highlight of the appointment - those 30 seconds. (I did record the heartbeat on my phone, but having difficulty trying to upload it to the blog. Blah!)
- Nurse leaves. The doctor then comes in asks if I have any questions, which i only a have a couple per visit. I'm not a worry-wart pregnant woman, so I'm an easy patient, I think anway.
- That's it. Apointment is over.
Next appointment, however will be the BIG one! We get another ultrasound and we will get to find out the sex of the baby! Now, that is CRAZY!

This week, the baby is about the size of a peach.
The http://www.thebump.com says "Your fetus is forming teeth and vocal cords... savor this, their non-functional phase. Baby is approaching normal proportions, with a head now only one third the size of the body. Intestines are in the process of moving from the umbilical cord to baby's tummy. (Much more convenient.)"
www.babycenter.com says "Fingerprints have formed on your baby's tiny fingertips, her veins and organs are clearly visible through her still-thin skin, and her body is starting to catch up with her head -- which makes up just a third of her body size now. If you're having a girl, she now has more than 2 million eggs in her ovaries. Your baby is almost 3 inches long (the size of a medium shrimp) and weighs nearly an ounce. "

New Normal
My parents left Monday morning to go back to KC around 7:00 a.m. Afterwards, Brent and I looked at each other as to what to do next. We now have to to try to juggle "puppy duty" with getting ready for work. As anyone knows who's had a puppy, they can't always be trusted when unsupervised. And we're just letting her roam the living room area now before be given permission to roam the whole house at her leisure. So, someone needs to be down in the living room attending to Lacey while the other person is upstairs getting ready.
Everyday seems to be a different dance as we have different schedules each day.
Monday, Brent was home with Lacey all day. So that made it easy for me to get ready. But I kept checking in on Lacey stepping out on the landing to look down on the new puppy. That seemed to slow me down a bit.
Tuesday morning Brent and I were both out of the house early, so Lacey was crated alone for several hours before Brent came home around lunchtime. That was sad to hear her whine as we walked out.
Wednesay Brent left at 6:30 while I had to juggle getting ready and puppy duty alone. You know how I solved that? Crate. I thought she'd whine the whole time, but I was shocked that she only whined for several minutes and then entertained herself.
We'll see what the future dance will look like...
So far so good though.
